Best Non-Touristy Places to Visit in the Poconos

No. 9 Coal Mine & Museum

Don’t miss out to visit this oldest coal mine in the United States where you can discover the real inner workings of a coal mine. This longest operating Anthracite deep coal mine in the world was opened in 1855 by the Lehigh Coal and navigation company.

Carved pieces of coal, historic photographs, paintings and some of the other artifacts are the unique traits of this historic place. Go for this preserved mine where you can get the perfect guide for your visit about the coal mine. This is one of the perfect non-tourist things to do in Poconos which delves you with the different activities.

Columcille Megalith Park – Bangor, PA

This private and non-profit park has more than 90 majestic megalith settings in the 19 acres. This public park is surrounded by North Hampton County and Upper lehigh Valley which has beautiful attractions. 

This Bangor hidden gem park was established by William H. Cohea, Jr. in 1978. He got inspired and built it after visiting Scotland. It is considered as the “Stonehenge of the Lehigh Valley” with various structures and stacked stones.
