No place can be as thought-provoking and amazing as the Antoine Dutot museum. It is not only an educational spot but also the main arts and cultural attraction in Delaware Water Gap. We would like to give you some insights into the spot so that you won’t forget to visit it.
The man behind the museum
The Antoine Dutot museum was named in memory of the famous “Antoine Dutot”. The man was the founding father of the town Dutotsville, which was later renamed Delaware Water Gap. Antoine Dutot museum was previously a famous art school. It is said that the school imparted education for nearly 99 years and later converted into a museum.
What to expect
Tucked away in the lush green area of Delaware Water Gap, the hut-shaped building looks absolutely stunning with a slight hint of the Victorian era. The museum surely looks like a school at a first glance. As you enter the spot, you will get confirmation that it was an educational institute. The vintage classrooms and the school bell take you back to the 1930s era when the place used to be a known education centre for art enthusiasts. Legend has it that the school bell was purchased by the one and only Antoine Dutot. The bell looks exactly like the liberty bell and it is one of the main attractions of the museum. Besides the bell and the classrooms, you will come across the old deeds, rifles, drums and artefacts from the old Delaware Water Gap. The art pieces and artefacts exhibited in the art gallery will help you explore the history of the town
